Exclusive:'We'll need to see' - Newcastle United star receives scan results after training ground injury blow
Newcastle United have been handed a fresh injury problem ahead of Tuesday night’s trip to Millwall in the Carabao Cup.
Newcastle United goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen is set to miss Tuesday night’s Carabao Cup third round clash at Millwall (8pm kick-off) due to injury.
The 20-year-old featured in United’s 3-2 win over West Bromwich Albion in the previous round of the competition and was in line to return to the side for the trip to The Den.
But a training ground ankle injury ruled him out of Saturday’s 2-2 draw against Bournemouth in the Premier League, with Nick Pope taking his place on the bench. Jaouen missed the match after being sent for a scan on his ankle and will now seek a specialist opinion in London this week as a result.

Newcastle United goalkeeper decision
With Jaouen ruled out, Matthias Jaissle faces a decision whether to keep Lukas Hornicek in goal or hand Pope a surprise recall to the starting line-up.
Pope was made available to leave Newcastle during the summer transfer window and it was understood that he would not be part of Jaissle’s first-team plans moving forward. But failing to secure a transfer exit and Jaouen’s injury blow has given the 34-year-old a potential route back into the side.

Other goalkeeping options include Mark Gillespie and Aidan Harris.
And Jaissle admitted uncertainty over the situation heading into Tuesday’s match.
“We'll need to see [who plays],” he said after the Bournemouth draw. “There was a reason [Pope was on the bench], because Ewen was twisting his ankle [on Friday].
“Still a couple of days left to make the final decision on who's then finally in the goal.”
