Amar Dedic, Anthony Elanga, Will Osula: Newcastle United injury list & expected return dates

Amar Dedic, Anthony Elanga, Will Osula: Newcastle United injury list & expected return dates.

Matthias Jaissle admits the international break has come at a good time for Newcastle United, with their injury list beginning to mount.

The Magpies lost Anthony Elanga to injury in the build-up to their 4-1 defeat at Leeds United on Monday night. The result was then compounded by a further three injuries.

Amar Dedic appeared to suffer a recurrence of the hamstring injury that forced him at half-time against Millwall, while Jacob Ramsey remained an unused substitute at Elland Road after picking up a groin issue in the pre-match warm-up.

During the early stages of the game, the ball smacked Nico Gonzalez in the face. He initially tried to play on before coming off as a concussion substitute in the 19th minute.

Before all that, Jaissle was already without Will Osula, Joelinton, Dan Burn and Ewen Jaouen.

The Magpies host Hull City in the Premier League on Saturday before the three-week international break. Here’s a look at Newcastle’s injury list and the expected return dates:

Amar Dedic

Dedic was brought off near the hour-mark at Elland Road. It was thought to be tactical at the time, but was more through injury.

What’s Matthias Jaissle said?

“It doesn't look that good for the Hull match. Amar will also not be able to play on Saturday, so it's getting shorter and shorter, at least.”

Expected return date

Coventry City (A), 12/10.

Nico Gonzalez

Gonzalez suffered a blow to the head in the early stages of Monday night’s 4-1 defeat at Leeds United. Despite briefly playing on, the Spaniard was withdrawn as a concussion substitution with just 19 minutes played.

What’s Matthias Jaissle said?

“It was just unlucky. It was not a big hit, but the hit was was strong enough and precise enough to knock him out.

“Like I said also in the post-match press conference, we need to be smart, we have the responsibility then to follow the protocol from the league, which I really think it's so good that we're so advanced in that approach, so he's missing the Saturday's match.

“But he's feeling much better; he's fine, usually you know, he could train, he can progress but again we take that protocol seriously, and therefore he will be out.”

Expected return date

Coventry City (A), 12/10.

Anthony Elanga

Elanga missed the trip to Leeds through injury, though the exact nature of it is still to be confirmed.

What’s Matthias Jaissle said?

“Still not a real update on Anthony. I just spoke with him now, I think in the next 30 minutes he's in for a MRI, so we will get more clarity then. And then we hope that it's not that serious.”

Expected return date

TBC.

Jacob Ramsey

Ramsey was an unused substitute during the defeat to Leeds after feeling his, thigh in the pre-match warm-up.

What’s Matthias Jaissle said?

“He felt his thigh in the warm-up, so he was not able to play tonight.”

Expected return date

Coventry City (A), 12/10.

Will Osula

Osula sustained a foot problem during the Premier League opening day draw against Liverpool. He played on initially, but was forced to withdraw early in the second half.

What’s Matthias Jaissle said?

“He's now permanently getting the best treatment. We have a fantastic medical department, but it's still too early to make a clear prognosis, a clear time frame when he's back, but he's working hard in the rehab like all the others.”

Expected return date

Coventry City (A), 12/10.

Joelinton

Joelinton featured in just two of the Magpies’ seven pre-season friendlies due to injury.

What’s Matthias Jaissle said?

“Yeah, he's for sure out for a couple of weeks, but I don't want to go into too much detail, as there will always be specialists involved.

“The medical department is aware of it, we have top staff when it comes to that, and I'm really confident that he will be back as soon as possible.”

Expected return date

Coventry City (A), 12/10.

Dan Burn

Burn rolled his ankle in training in the build-up to the Premier League opener against Liverpool, and was spotted at the game on crutches and wearing a protective boot.

What’s Matthias Jaissle said?

Jaissle initially hoped Burn would return within a couple of weeks, however the defender isn’t expecting to be until after the upcoming international break.

Speaking earlier this week, Burn said: “It’s my not first injury and I’m sure it won’t be my last but hopefully I won’t be out for too long - I expect to be back after the international break.”

Expected return date

Coventry City (A), 12/10.

Ewen Jaouen

The French goalkeeper suffered an ankle injury on the eve of Newcastle’s 2-2 draw with Bournemouth and, as reported by The Gazette, was sent to see a specialist.

What’s Matthias Jaissle said?

Jaissle is yet to provide an update on Jaouen but it’s understood the goalkeeper returned to training this week.

Expected return date

Hull City (H), 19/09.
