Newcastle United have reportedly ‘turned their back’ on a deal for Leeds United winger Jack Harrison and are ready to turn their attention towards a new transfer target.

The Magpies had been keen on a move for the Whites star after being impressed with his performances in helping Jesse Marsch’s side secure their Premier League status after a tense battle against relegation last season.

Harrison was said to be one of United’s key transfer targets after Reims forward Hugo Ekitike joined Paris Saint Germain and a move for Bayer Leverkusen star Moussa Diaby proved too costly.

However, a deal for Harrison has proved difficult with Leeds believed to be demanding over £35million for the former Manchester City winger.

That has led the Magpies hierachy to look to alternative targets and moves for the likes of Burnley forward Maxwel Cornet, Everton’s highly-rated youngster Anthony Gordon and Watford’s Ismaila Sarr are all believed to have been considered.

Several possible targets in France have been reported in recent weeks and another name has been added to the list over the last 24 hours after the Daily Mail suggested Newcastle have lodged an enquiry for Rennes winger Kamaldeen Sulemana.

The 20-year-old Ghana international joined the Ligue 1 side from Danish club Nordsjaelland in a £13.5million move last summer and has impressed during his maiden season in France.

The pacey winger scored four goals and provided two assists in 27 appearances as his side secured qualification for the Europa League with a fourth placed finish.

Kamaldeen was also part of the Ghana squad that featured at the African Cup of Nations earlier this year and has earned 11 caps for the Black Stars since making his debut in a World Cup qualifier against Mali in October 2020.

Manchester United were also reported to have taken an interest in the winger prior to his move to Rennes but it could be Newcastle that could offer him a first chance in the Premier League if their enquiry is met by a positive response.
