‘Please’ - Allan Saint-Maximin begs Joe Willock to do one thing at Newcastle United
Joe Willock scored the goal that booked Newcastle United a spot in the Carabao Cup fourth round last night.
Allan Saint-Maximin has jokingly urged Joe Willock to change his celebration after firing Newcastle United into the Carabao Cup fourth round.
It took until the 81st minute for the Magpies to break down a sturdy Millwall backline. Willock rounded off a brilliant move from Matias Fernandez-Pardo and Lewis Hall as over 2,000 travelling Toon fans rejoiced in the Den.
Enjoying a more advanced role under Matthias Jaissle, the 27-year-old bagged his second goal of the season. A simple jog while pointing towards the sky is how Willock celebrated his latest Newcastle strike.

The club’s media team posted a clip of Willock’s goal that confirmed a spot in the next round. In response, former fan favourite Saint-Maximin asked the midfielder to spice up his next celebration.
The Frenchman was no stranger to wild antics after scoring for the Magpies. Saint-Maximin would regularly perform somersaults to crown an all-important goal.
In February 2020, a bizarre situation saw a Newcastle fan caught “windmilling” on camera following Saint-Maximin’s late winner against Oxford United. That was certainly at the opposite end of the celebration spectrum to Willock’s more measured approach last night…
Joe Willock ‘happy’ to still be a Newcastle United player
Speaking to BBC Radio Newcastle last night, the match-winner opened up about his commitment to Newcastle after almost joining Besiktas in the summer. He said: “I'm happy to still be here. As I said, it's a massive club that's played a big part in my career. I'm really happy to still be wearing this badge, shirt and giving my all for this club.
“As I said, it's an important club for me and I'm looking to push forward this season. I think we've got big aspirations so, hopefully, we can reach those goals. I think I feel valued. This is my fifth year here at the club, sixth year maybe. I'm really maturing in the way I think towards the team.
“I'm getting older and there's a lot of young players coming in. I think it's a different role for me this season. I want to help others. I want to push on in my career as well.
“The new manager is giving me a new lease of life and I'm really happy that he's here. I'm happy working under him. I think he's a really young, exciting coach and we're all learning a lot from him. I think there's way more that we can get better at.
“It's a good time to be a Newcastle player. I'm really excited to keep working, learning, keep giving my best for the team and hopefully we can continue in this vein of form.”
