Must watch - Newcastle United players hilariously react to new Matthias Jaissle chant

Newcastle United supporters belted out the latest terrace hit after tasting Carabao Cup victory against Millwall.

Yoane Wissa and Malick Thiaw had smiles as wide as the Tyne while listening to a rendition of Matthias Jaissle’s new terrace chant.

Over 2,000 Newcastle United fans made the midweek trip to the capital. While the performance was laboured, a late Joe Willock goal proved enough to earn a Carabao Cup third-round victory over Millwall.

And just like the scenes in North London 10 days ago, Newcastle supporters could be heard serenading the manager and several players at the full-time whistle. The words “Jaissle, I Can Boogie” - to the tune of the famous Baccara hit - echoed from the Den away end.

Newcastle United stars react

Footage from the club’s media channel shows Wissa and Thiaw laughing and joking while applauding the travelling fans. Both players’ names feature in the Jaissle-inspired chant.

Thiaw - the stand-in captain for the previous four games this season - was an unused substitute. Ironically, this allowed Wissa to step in and skipper the Magpies for the first time.

Newcastle fans likely boogied all night as they trekked home following another London triumph. A win over Millwall extended the unbeaten start to the season to five games in all competitions.

Matthias Jaissle on ‘boogie’ chant

At his unveiling as Newcastle manager, Jaissle admitted that his social media “spies” had informed him of the catchy chant. He told reporters: "I've got my spies on social media who have told me a special song has already been created. I'm really happy the fans already appreciate me a lot. It has given me a really nice feeling."

‘Really pleased’ - Matthias Jaissle

On the hard-earned win, Jaissle added: "We are really pleased with the result. We did the job. That's always the most important thing in the cup match, especially here against Millwall. We knew that it was going to be hard, that it will be a challenge.

"We made the right step compared to the first half against Bournemouth. We matched the physical approach from the opponent and that's something we can build on.”
