‘Give them a hiding’ - World champion boxer trolls Newcastle United as Everton loss predicted
Newcastle United can climb up to seventh with a win over Everton at St James’ Park tonight.
Former cruiserweight world champion Tony Bellew is backing Everton to beat Newcastle United for the second time in four days.
Matthias Jaissle’s men were dumped out of the Carabao Cup on Thursday. A limp performance - which saw the Magpies struggle at both ends of the pitch - ended the Wembley dream.
Newcastle have won just one of their last six games against Everton. Both sides languish in mid-table - with seventh place up for grabs should either team earn all three points.
Tony Bellew makes Newcastle United prediction
Three defeats in four games across all competitions has raised the stakes on Jaissle to deliver at St James’ Park. Consecutive Premier League wins and a lift into the European places would renew the positive energy on Tyneside.
However, Bellew - a lifelong Toffee - is hoping David Moyes can spoil the party. He is tipping Everton to deal Newcastle “another hiding” when the two sides meet tonight.
“It won't be easy, but we'll be there, we'll be screaming,” Bellew told talkSPORT. “I just back the manager and players. I believe we'll get past them. I believe we'll beat them at their patch as well. We've done them last night, we'll go up there and give them another hiding."
Matthias Jaissle blasts Newcastle United defence
Ahead of the clash, Jaissle pointed the finger towards defensive errors as to why Newcastle are conceding too many goals. Everton’s opener on Thursday saw Amar Dedic lose possession cheaply before James Garner curled home.
Likewise, failing to track runners and deal with transitions caused the Magpies to ship a second and third. He told reporters: "It is something where we need to work on…not conceding so many goals.
“We need to just avoid these individual mistakes, especially where the opposition is not that dominant on the pitch. We need to improve for the next match on Monday.”
