Newcastle United hit with brutal £15m transfer reminder as official bid submitted
Former Newcastle United midfielder Elliot Anderson is the subject of a £120million bid from Manchester City.
Manchester City have bid £120million to sign former Newcastle United midfielder Elliot Anderson.
Newcastle reluctantly sold their academy graduate to Nottingham Forest in June 2024 to help comply with Premier League Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) and avoid an inevitable points deduction.
While the sale went down as £35million on the books, the Magpies signed Greek goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos in return for £20m, meaning Anderson’s true value worked out at £15m.

Since leaving St James’ Park, Anderson has established himself as a key player for club and country and as a result, his valuation has rocketed.
Man City have offered £106m plus potential add-ons for Anderson, taking the total to £120m. However, according to The Athletic, Forest want to eclipse the £125m British record fee Liverpool paid to Newcastle for Alexander Isak last summer.
And to add further salt into the wounds, Newcastle won’t benefit from any potential sale after failing to negotiate a sell-on clause due to the vulnerable financial position they found themselves in at the time.
Newcastle United regret over Elliot Anderson sale
Anderson came back to haunt Newcastle in May when his late equaliser in a 1-1 draw at the City Ground ultimately ended their hopes of qualifying for Europe.
Speaking after the game, Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe said: “It was something we regretted when we were doing it, and we knew that that would be a very, very painful transfer, one that we had to do, we had no choice.
“But it was probably the most reluctant transfer I'll ever do because you knew the quality, we knew the quality of the player, we'd seen him close up for a number of years training with us. He was beginning to break into the team at the back end of that season.
“He was being really effective in a number of different positions. It really hurts to see him do that against us today. He's going to go and have a fantastic career wherever he goes, wherever his career takes him. He's a great lad as well, so it's painful for us to take, but he's an outstanding player.”
