Since her first days at the club, Amanda Staveley has been pushing to increase the presence and performance of United’s Women’s team, a struggle which went to the last game of the season due to an exciting rivialy between the club and Durham Cestria.

In the end, the Lady Magpies went up on goal difference alone.

Next season they will play in the third tier of women’s football- one step closer to realising Staveley’s dream of Newcastle being in the Women’s Super League.

Talking to the i, she said: “The women’s team is very important. It is an integral part of our plans to develop talent within the Club and to ensure that the women’s game and our team continue to gain increased recognition and following everywhere.

“[The vision] is very much like our ambition for the men’s team which is to see it grow and compete for the top trophies from the top division.”

This season, Staveley allowed Newcastle United Women manager, Becky Langley, to go full-time in order to see the team succeed.

After narrowly missing out on promotion last season, the change has made a massive difference to the side, with Langley saying after clearing their first hurdle: “It’s such a relief.

“I’m so proud and so happy because we’ve worked so hard for four years and nobody sees the hard yards that go in behind the scenes. So for it all to pay off today, I’m just so happy.”
