In the video Fender closes out the show on hit single 'Hypersonic Missiles' as black and white flags wave in the venue.

From the arena's wings, Trippier wrote: "What an incredible evening."

Then the 31-year-old went on to praise the packed-out crowd, making his North East allegiances very clear.

He said: "Can’t beat the Newcastle crowd, Sunderland where you at?"

With over 10,000 likes by the next morning, Trippier's video certainly got the internet talking.

It's fair to say the message didn't go down too well with fans of the Black Cats, who jibed back at the Newcastle player.

Some Sunderland fans chose to recall derby matches of yesteryear, whilst others flaunted the artists who had performed at the Stadium of Light.

One user wrote: "Just hosting the likes of Rihanna, Beyoncé and Ed Sheeran mate enjoy your local musician."

A Newcastle fan joked back: "All the comments about Newcastle not beating Sunderland man.

"Might get the chance if yous could ever get out of League 1."

Many shared their own pictures and images from the memorable Fender gig.

Fellow Newcastle United first-team player Dan Burn was also pictured at the gig.

The 6ft 4in defender, who shares his North Eastern beginnings with Fender, watched the singer from the standing area, enjoying his lofty vantage point.

Sam Fender plays another sold-out show at the Utilita Arena on Wednesday night.
