Newcastle United supporters are being asked to ensure they bring their black-and-white scarves to St James' Park on Wednesday night as the Magpies take on Manchester City in the Carabao Cup third round.

Eddie Howe's side reached the final of the cup competition last season and enjoyed an unforgettable day out at Wembley Stadium, despite losing 2-0 to Manchester United.

Newcastle United fans would no double love another cup run but an early draw against last year's treble winners is an almighty hurdle to overcome. The side have the favour of a home draw and fan groups are working hard to make sure Magpies supporters create the famous cauldron of atmosphere in the cathedral on the hill to give the side every advantage possible.

Wor Flags have urged all fans coming to the game to bring a black-and-white scarf to unfurl ahead of the game in a manner similar to that done before the Carabao Cup semi-final clash with Southampton earlier this year.

The atmosphere in St James' Park before the match was second-to-none with Newcastle United star Dan Burn almost blown away by the show. After winning the match, the defender was asked to describe how it felt to walk out at St. James' Park and said: "I can’t. It’s the best atmosphere I’ve ever played in. Before the game the place was bouncing. I could feel myself getting emotional, but I’m just really happy for the lads.

“I thought we did really well at the start then let them back into it, but just really proud of the boys and the club.”

Eddie Howe has shared his expectations that Pep Guardiola will field a full strength Manchester City side, despite the Spaniard's claim that he may have to weaken his side for the match. Howe said: “I haven’t seen them [comments] so you’re telling me about those comments but I don’t believe that for a second because Pep is a manager who has won so much and he hasn’t done that without giving everything to every moment to try and achieve that success.

“I’ve no doubt we will see the best [strongest] Manchester City tomorrow.”
