Newcastle United are reportedly set to miss out on the signing of Japan international Daichi Kamada.

The Eintracht Frankfurt attacking midfielder was believed to be on a list of transfer targets for the Magpies as he heads into the final months of his contract with the Bundesliga club. The 26-year-old moved to Deutsche Bank Park in a cut-price deal from Sagan Tosu in the summer of 2017 and has gradually settled into life in Germany after spending the 2018/19 season on loan at Belgian side Sint-Truiden.

Since returning to Eintracht, Kamada has scored 37 goals and provided 31 assists in 158 appearances in all competitions, with 18 of those goal contributions coming during the current season to help his side impress in both the Champions League and Bundesliga.

However, with no signs of a new contract being agreed, Kamada has been heavily linked with a move away from Eintracht this summer, with Newcastle described as ‘confident’ they could secure a deal to take him to Tyneside on a free transfer at the end of the season.

Their hopes of landing Kamada are set to be handed a major blow after journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed the attacking midfielder is set to remain in Germany after he ‘verbally agreed’ a five-year deal with Borussia Dortmund, who are said to be ‘closing in’ on an agreement.

Magpies consider move for Ligue 1 star

Newcastle have once again been linked with a move for Portuguese defender Tiago Djalo.

There are reports in Italy suggesting the Magpies could disappoint a Serie A giant for the second consecutive summer transfer window by winning the race for a highly-rated Lille centre-back. United saw off competition from AC Milan to secure the signing of Sven Botman last summer - but this time they will have to beat their arch rivals to sign Inter Milan defender Djalo at the end of the season.

FootMercato have stated United are ready to offer over £15m to reunite Djalo with Botman at St James Park as they look to add further quality and depth to their squad in a bid to build on the momentum gained this season. The 22-year-old will head into the final year of his current contract this summer and the Magpies are confident they can secure a deal to boost their defensive ranks.
