Newcastle United are being linked with a Leeds United star as they plan for a Champions League campaign.

Newcastle United are being linked with a move for a midfielder Jamie Carragher once dubbed as ‘excellent’.

The Magpies are on the lookout for fresh blood ahead of next season as they prepare to return to Europe. Eddie Howe’s men will play in the Champions League next season, and they will also be looking to compete for a top four spot in the Premier League for the second consecutive season.

But to compete on both fronts, Newcastle are going to need more depth and quality, going into the Champions League as a bottom seed, while Premier League big boys like Chelsea and Liverpool are likely to come back with a vengeance next season.

In preparation, Newcastle are expected to make a number of new signings, and The Telegraph claim there are five, in particular, the club are looking at. The report claims Leeds United star Tyler Adams is one of the targets. Adams joined the Whites last summer and he went on to be one of the standout players in what was a disappointing season for the Yorkshire club, and one that ultimately ended in relegation.

Leeds are very likely to lose Adams this summer, and there is likely to be interest from a number of clubs given Adams’ performances this season, including at the World Cup when he impressed for USA.

After a performance against England, Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher tweeted: “A draw was a fair result, the energy of Adams & Mckennie was excellent & Pulisic showed his class at times. Harry Maguire was superb for England. No Foden.”

The report claims Newcastle hope to land Adams for less than £30million just one year after Leeds signed the midfielder from RB Leipzig for around £20million. The Magpies do need more depth in midfield, and if they can land an international and Premier League-level midfielder for less than £30million, it would be an impressive grab, but they are likely to face competition.
