There’s a buzz around the city as Newcastle United prepare for its first Champions League home game in over 20 years- a buzz which has been spurred on by a very special sighting over St James’ Park last night.

United are set to take on European heavyweights Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday in the second group match of the campaign and it seems the club, and main sponsor Sela, are dead set on making it one of the most memorable nights in its history.

Last night onlookers were amazed when they spotted incredible lit-up images above St James’ Park depicting a range of images from a 3D Magpie to the shirts of numerous Newcastle players including Tonali, Bruno and Trippier.

It’s believed the club used around 500 drones to create the amazing images above the Newcastle skyline, setting the tone for Wednesday night.

Initially thought to be a test run ahead of the big day, it’s now believed to have been recorded last night and instead will only be shown on the television broadcast.

But fear not! Fans will be able to catch the drone light display again tonight with two final shows taking place at 8pm and 9:45pm. However, fans have been warned not to gather around St James’ Park itself as the lights can only be seen properly from some distance.
