The Magpies face Crystal Palace in EFL Cup action tonight before Chelsea visit St James’ Park at the weekend in what will be their final Premier League match before the break. Eddie Howe’s side will then return to action on Boxing Day and, at that point, the January transfer window will be just around the corner. It’s likely to be a busy window for the North East side and reports are already suggesting they are planning a ‘formal transfer offer’ for a potential future star.

Per The Express, who cite journalist Agustin Sileo in their article, Newcastle United are getting set to make an offer for Argentinian teenager Maximo Perrone. The 19-year old midfielder currently plays for Vélez Sarsfield in Argentina’s Primera División where he is already an established part of the first team despite his young age. Since March, Perrone has made 31 appearances for the side in both the league and Copa Libertadores and has scored three goals. The midfielder does appear to pick up quite a lot of bookings though and has amassed 12 yellow cards in those matches but has not received a single red card.

The report claims that United are ‘poised to submit a formal transfer offer over the next few days’ for the Argentine youngster. Perrone, who came through the youth ranks at Vélez Sarsfield before breaking into the first team this year, has also represented his country at Under 20 international level. It is not reported how much Newcastle are willing to offer the South American club for their teenage starlet.

Although Perrone would likely be considered a player for the future, and would potentially join up with the Magpies’ reserve side rather than going straight into the first team, the club are also expected to invest significantly in more recognisable names in the next transfer window. The most recent reports have them linked to Atletico Madrid winger Yannick Carrasco, who was said to be a transfer target they missed out on in the summer.
