Emil Krafth is set to return to Newcastle United’s matchday squad this afternoon after being pictured in training on Saturday.

The 30-year-old underwent surgery on a broken collarbone in November, keeping him out for the last two months and 12 matches in total.

Krafth has been ‘back on the grass’ in the last couple of weeks but the Magpies’ medical team have waited until the bone has fully healed before re-introducing to full training.

And that time has now come after the Sweden international was captured in the club’s training gallery, 24 hours before United host Bromley in the third round of the FA Cup later today (kick-off 3pm).

United boss Eddie Howe will make wholesale changes for the visit of the League Two side after away wins at Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal took a lot out of his squad physically.

That is expected to include rotation at right-back and at the centre of defence, two positions Krafth can operate in. But there is still competition with Kieran Trippier an option at full-back and Fabian Schar at centre-back.

The former Switzerland international is fresh having missed the wins at Spurs and Arsenal through suspension.

Speaking about Krafth earlier this week, Howe told NewcastleWorld: “He’s getting closer. Krafthy has done a lot of work.

“The type of injury that he had meant that he could run quite early. He could do everything other than the sort of physical contact so yeah, he's super fit but we just need the bone to heal before he can take that contact again.”
