Newcastle United suffered late heartbreak in their Premier League match against Liverpool last night, as the Reds scored in the eight minute of added time to snatch a 2-1 win at Anfield.
The Magpies went into half-time with a 1-0 lead, thanks to a debut goal from exciting new striker signing Alexander Isak, but Jurgen Klopp’s side equalised via Roberto Firmino with thirty minutes left to play, before Fabio Carvalho sent the Kop into hysteria with his late goal.

Newcastle United transfer deadline day live: Magpies seek late deals
Good morning, and welcome to our live blog.
The summer transfer deadline day 2022 is finally here, and it’s set to be one of the liveliest days of trading we’ve seen in some time, with a host of Premier League clubs still hunting for new signings.
We’ve got you covered with everything going on at St James’ Park throughout the day, as we wait to see whether the Magpies swoop for any late deals.
Here’s a look at the signings Eddie Howe has managed to bring to St James’ Park so far this summer:
- Matt Targett from Aston Villa - £15m
- Nick Pope from Burnley - £10m
- Sven Botman from Lille - £35m
- Alexander Isak from Real Sociedad - £58m
Leicester City have endured a dismal start to the season, and the future of their star midfielder Youri Tielemans is still uncertain.
Newcastle, according to the Daily Mail, have joined Arsenal in the race to sign the Belgium international.
Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz is also said to be on the Magpies’ shortlist, as they look to bulk up their midfield ahead of tonight’s 11pm deadline.
There could still be an outside chance that Ross Barkley joins, too, after having his contract at Chelsea terminated by mutual consent.
Newcastle are said to be showing a late interest in signing Juventus star Denis Zakaria.
According to the Daily Mail’s Craig Hope, the Magpies have enquired about the possibility of signing Zakaria on loan.
It’s also claimed enquires have been made over Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Harrison Ashby.
Newcastle are said to have checked on the possibility of signing Aston Villa star Douglas Luiz on deadline day.
The Telegraph say Newcastle are working on midfield signings ahead of the deadline, and Luiz has been considered as a late deal.
Newcastle are expected to offload Federico Fernandez and Matty Longstaff before the deadline.
According to the Telegraph, Fernandez, who previously played for Getafe, is headed to Elche, returning to Spain, while Longstaff is expected to join Barnsley.
One departure that looks likely on deadline day is Martin Dubravka.
The goalkeeper looks as though he is headed out on a loan deal amid the arrival of Nick Pope, who is the Magpies’ new number one.
Dubravka has been with the Magpies for four years, making more than 100 league appearances during that time.
But it seems he is now headed out, but not to get regular football.
According to The Athletic, Dubravka will join Manchester United on a loan deal on deadline day, providing back-up for David De Gea.
Newcastle United are still said to be interested in a deal for Lyon star Malo Gusto.
According to journalist Ignazio Genuardi, the Magpies are ‘hot’ on the defender, but Lyon do not want to sell as the deadline closes in.
Newcastle are said to be unlikely to sign Leicester City star Youri Tielemans.
According to Sky Sports’ Keith Downie, the Magpies are interested in a £25million deal, but they are likely to be willing to meet the Belgian’s wage demands.
Watford are said to be interested in a deal for Newcastle United forward Chris Wood.
According to Daily Mail journalist Craig Hope, Watford have made an enquiry over the forward, and they are one of a number of clubs to express an interest.
Newcastle are said to have rejected all of the offers so far, not wanting to lose any attacking players.
