Not just Nick Woltemade - Second Newcastle United star could join Premier League rival
Jacob Murphy is the longest-serving player at Newcastle United but could be on the move today.
Nottingham Forest have reportedly enquired about Newcastle United veteran Jacob Murphy.
As it stands, the 31-year-old is the longest-serving player at St James’ Park. Murphy arrived for £12million from Norwich City in 2017.
After initially struggling to break into the team, successive loan spells at West Bromwich Albion and Sheffield Wednesday suggested his Toon days were numbered. However, a renaissance under Eddie Howe has seen Murphy play a key role in recent years.
Various sources claim Nottingham Forest have contacted Newcastle regarding a potential late transfer. It is understood that the Magpies are not actively looking to sell Murphy - but could have done earlier in the window.
At this stage, losing a right-winger would not be ideal when balancing Matthias Jaissle’s squad. Anthony Elanga is the only other natural option on that flank, with Harvey Barnes and Will Osula occasionally filling in.
Interestingly, new £51million arrival Matias Fernandez-Pardo can operate on the right but prefers a central role. This could be a case of “one to watch” if Forest made Newcastle an offer they could not refuse.
Murphy has one year remaining on his contract and the Magpies would not want to lose him for nothing. It promises to be a hectic final few hours of the window as Newcastle focus on exits - including Nick Woltemade’s likely loan move to Juventus.
