Newcastle United are now gearing up for a tasty-looking Premier League clash with Manchester United.

The international break is slowly winding down, bringing the return of club football back into focus. The Magpies will be raring to go, too, locked in a battle for European football and, specifcally, for a top-four spot. As things stand, Eddie Howe’s men are in fifth place, just two points behind Tottenham and with two games in-hand.

They are also just three points behind Man Utd having played the same number of games, and that makes this weekend’s clash with the Red Devils at St James’ Park that much more appealing. We still have some time to go until Sunday’s Premier League clash, but we already know a little about the injury situations facing both clubs.

Newcastle will be sweating on Sven Botman, who has suffered from illness during the international break, but you would think the defender will be fit in time, and it’s the same case for Callum Wilson. Nick Pope had to withdraw from England duty with a minor issue but should be back for this one, and the same can be said for Allan Saint-Maximin, who picked up a hamstring injury before the break.

Anthony Gordon could be back in contention, but Miguel Almiron is sidelined with a thigh issue. Emil Krafth will be out until pre-season, along with youngster Matty Longstaff. Newcastle are also without Joelinton, who is suspended for this one after reaching the second yellow card limit.

As for Man Utd, Donny van de Beek is out for the rest of the season, while Alejandro Garnacho is out for the coming weeks. Casemiro is also out for United, serving a suspension after his second straight red card of the season. The good news for Ten Hag is that he hopes to get Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and possibly Christian Eriksen back from injury. The latter two will still be listed as doubts for this one.
