Confirmed: Newcastle United youngster Sean Neave handed massive opportunity after double injury blow

Newcastle United forward Sean Neave is set to start for Wolverhampton Wanderers tonight.

Sean Neave is set to make his first senior league start for Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Championship tonight.

Wolves travel to face Burnley in the Championship on Friday night looking to bounce back from successive defeats. Neave joined Wolves on loan from Newcastle at the end of the summer transfer window but faced stiff competition for a starting spot.

The 19-year-old was already behind Raul Jimenez and Adam Armstrong in the pecking order upon arriving which has limited him to four substitute appearances and just 18 minutes of Championship football so far this season.

Neave started Wolves’ Carabao Cup defeat at Everton last month but will now start his first professional league match tonight.

Both Jimenez and Armstrong are ruled out of the trip to Turf Moor. Wolves confirmed earlier this week that Jimenez requires surgery on an MCL knee injury that is set to rule him out until the new year. And ahead of the trip to Burnley, former Newcastle forward Armstrong was also ruled out.

When asked if Neave would start in their absence, Wolves head coach Cesar Peixoto said: “Yes, he is the player we have in this position. He is a [young] player who is not ready to play a lot of minutes and I have to be clear about that, but because he came as the third option, we have Raul, we have Adam, two experienced players.

“We bring young players to grow up and play some minutes in some games, football is like that. Raul is injured, Adam has a problem in his back, so it is the moment for Sean.

“Sean has to show character, show his quality, try to work for the team and try to do his best. We have confidence in him. I think he needs more time to stay ready for this kind of pressure but he has the team to back him. He has my confidence and for sure he is going to fight to do his best."
