Newcastle United duo Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton have linked up with Brazil ahead of upcoming friendlies against Guinea and Senegal.

After recently helping Newcastle qualify for the Champions League for the first time in 20 years, the pair are hoping to end their 2022-23 season on a high by pulling on their national team colours.

For Guimaraes, it’ll be a familiar feeling. However, for Joelinton, it’ll feel slightly more surreal after being handed his maiden call-up by Ramon Menezes.

Seeing Joelinton gain international recognition, finally, after an incredible turnaround in his Newcastle career has brought a lot of joy to Tyneside. Not just to teammates, staff and head coach Eddie Howe, but supporters too.

And that’s perhaps why Guimaraes’ latest - and light-hearted - Instagram post reflects exactly how Magpies supporters are feeling after seeing Joelinton wear the famous Brazil colours.

In the video, Guimaraes’ caption “ta bonito pra porra vey” translates to “it’s [swear word] beautiful” before saying “come on man, smile, you’re looking handsome”.

Joelinton is a firm favourite on Tyneside, as is Guimaraes, and Newcastle supporters would love nothing more than to see both play together when Brazil take on Guinea on June 17 and Senegal on June 20.

“Amazing news for someone who, for 18 months, has been incredible for me and the team,” Howe said on Joelinton last month.

“I felt he was a little bit unlucky not to go to the World Cup because his performances have been that strong for us. He’s had to be patient and he’s handled that disappointment really well. He was just normal Joe who went about his work in an incredible way.

“I’m so pleased for him and his family, it’ll be a proud moment.”
