Newcastle United’s shock chance of landing silverware compared to Liverpool and Manchester United - gallery

The Magpies now know what lies ahead as they look to move a step closer to a major trophy win.

Newcastle United supporters are dreaming of seeing the Magpies finally end their long search for silverware this season after Eddie Howe’s side moved into the last 16 of the Carabao Cup.

Wednesday night’s penalty shoot-out win over Premier League rivals Crystal Palace took United to within three wins of a first Wembley cup final since 1999. A home draw against Howe’s former club Bournemouth will provide a difficult challenge for the Magpies but they will be confident they can progress by continuing their impressive form on at St James Park.

The draw for the last 16 was made on Thursday night and at least one Premier League heavyweight will exit the competition at that stage after Liverpool were handed an away tie at Manchester City. But what are the odds of Newcastle finally winning major domestic silverware for the first time since 1955?
