Manchester United, Arsenal and Southampton are all said to have shown an interest in Newcastle United star Miguel Almiron.

The Paraguay international is currently in the form of his life at St James Park after scoring seven goals in 13 games, a run that includes six goals in his last six appearances for the Magpies. Almiron earned further recognition this week when he was nominated for the Premier League’s player of the month for October and was named among the candidates for goal of the season for the first of two strikes in United’s 4-1 win at Fulham on the first day of the month.

The 28-year-old has earned widespread praise for his upturn in form through the campaign and there had been talk of an extension to his current deal, which is said to contain a £58m release clause and will expire in the summer of 2024. However, Magpies manager Eddie Howe has recently states no talks are currently taking place and suggested they could be on the agenda ‘at a later date’.

Speaking last week, he said: “I’ve said every week how much I love and respect Miggy but I don’t think any conversations have started between the club or his representatives. At the moment, we’re in a busy spell of games. All conversations on contract and futures will take place at a later date.”

With thoughts turning towards his client’s future, Almiron’s agent has made a bizarre claim on Paraguayan radio suggesting the Magpies star had been the subject of loan offers from Arsenal and Southampton and has been of interest to Manchester United.

“Miguel Almiron is a footballer who went from less to more, now he is a more complete footballer,” Campos told ABC Cardinal. “There was interest shown by Manchester United in Miguel Almiron but they never made an offer. Arsenal and Southampton offered loan deals for Miguel Almiron but we did not want it to be a loan.”
