“As there was factual evidence that the ball was out of play in the build-up to the goal, the VAR recommended that the goal was disallowed.”

A slow start by the Magpies was punished six minutes in when Justin Kluivert was found in the penalty area unmarked to fire the ball past Martin Dubravka and into the bottom right corner.

Bruno Guimaraes dragged United level in the 25th minute after heading home Lewis Hall’s in-swinging corner but the Brazilian was soon at fault as the visitors re-took the lead. Guimaraes lost out to Ouattara from Dan Burn’s pass before Kluivert received the ball on the edge of the box to shoot and make it 2-1.

Bournemouth then ran riot in stoppage time with Kluivert completed his hat-trick before Milos Kerkez added a fourth.

Newcastle missed the opportunity the claim a 10th successive win in all competitions for the first time in their history.
