Sam Fender debuts his hilarious phone background featuring a Newcastle United legend

Sam Fender has shared his hilarious phone background to social media, featuring the one and only Alan Shearer.

The two Geordie legends have become friends over the past few years after Shearer surprised the musician on Match of the Day in 2019.

A lifelong Newcastle United fan, Sam recently played a headline set at the annual Alan Shearer Foundation Ball in March.

But it seems Sam has taken their friendship a step further, honouring his footballing hero on his phone background. Or, perhaps more accurately, taking the mick.

Because the photo in question is an extremely zoomed in photo of Shearer’s head.

Johnny Davis, Sam’s  saxophonist, posted to his Instagram story a picture of the phone in question with the caption: ‘The fact that Sam’s Home Screen is a close up of Alan Shearer’s head is just...’ followed by the pinched fingers emoji.

Celebrating the Toon’s all-time top goal scorer with the coveted position is just one of the many ways the North Shields lad has shown his love for his football club.

Last month he was seen cheering in the crowd at St James’ Park alongside North East actor Robson Green.

To round things off, Sam will be performing two sold out shows at the home of the Magpies at the beginning of June.
