Simon Jordan drops Alexander Isak transfer hint - Newcastle United supporters look away

Simon Jordan has doubled down on claims that Newcastle United will be forced to sell their best players.

More doomsday predictions from the former Crystal Palace owner is unlikely to go down well with Toon supporters. Jordan famously insisted the Saudi-backed takeover was “deader than a dead thing from dead land” just months before the £300million deal was approved.

Later failed prophecies included Eddie Howe being sacked at Newcastle before winning a major trophy. That forecast fell flat on its face last month when the 47-year-old lifted the Carabao Cup.

Not keen to give in on poo-pooing United’s parade, ex-football club owner Jordan suggested Alexander Isak could be sold due to financial constraints. He does, on the bright side, expect the Swede to remain at St James’ Park next season.

”As much as I don't want it to happen, as much as I don't like it and I don't wish it upon them, when a big legacy club comes along and writes out a cheque that's big enough and the player decides to do his little bit, which is that Isak gets off,” Jordan told talkSPORT. “I'm not so sure. Wait and see. I hope I'm very happy to be wrong.

I think that Newcastle will enjoy potentially the benefits of two things. I don't think there's enough money in the football circuit right now because of PSR to enable Isak to be bought for £150million, which is what Newcastle may want.

“I also think that, given the momentum of Newcastle, they're going to get another year of him. But when it comes knocking and a legacy club comes along, Newcastle will fall foul to it in the same way that all clubs that are aspiring to get to a point do.”

Jordan also spoke about the “established order” in the Premier League being a tough nut to crack consistently for Newcastle due to their greater revenues. He added: “If you can win the League Cup and all the hullabaloo that went with that, then compound the achievement by finishing second in the Premier League (and) qualifying for the Champions League, I think that's a great season.

“They're in great nick, (with) great momentum. They’re a good side. Most people enjoy watching (them) and the fans are utterly on board. You’ve still got to accept that there's an established order that's got bigger turnovers, just as much money as they've got and also have legacy and heritage that enables them to get better players because of their particular brand.

“I'm not including Tottenham in this conversation, but I'm looking at the top four. You're talking about making a case for seeing Newcastle in the top two or three as a regular staple diet. I'm suggesting that the powerhouses of Chelsea, whether it’s next season or the one after, they’ll get it right in the end. Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City.”

“Those four sides that have just as much money as Newcastle are able to spend. Newcastle will have access to more money because of their ownership, but, as they're able to spend, if the governance changes, then maybe the dynamics will change.”
