The new Premier League season is now just over a month away and Newcastle United supporters are already formulating their plans to get behind Eddie Howe’s side throughout the next nine months.

The Magpies will kick off a season that promises to be one of the most exciting in recent years with a home game against newly-promoted Nottingham Forest on the first Saturday of August.

Sky Sports, BT Sport and Amazon Prime are broadcasting Premier League fixtures during the season but they have decided against producing live coverage of United’s meeting with Steve Cooper’s side.

But there could be disruption to other Magpies fixtures with the three broadcasters yet to select their fixtures for live broadcast in the opening weeks of the season.

NewcastleWorld looks at the key dates for the announcement of match picks and which Newcastle games could be impacted during each round.

Period of matches: August - September

Provisional announcement date: Tuesday 5th July

The first picks for live broadcast will be announced next week - although the opening weekend selections have already been made.

Crystal Palace’s home game with Arsenal will kick off the live fixtures after Sky Sports’ decision to air the game on Friday 5th August.

BT Sport’s season gets underway with newly-promoted Fulham’s meeting with Liverpool at lunchtime on the first Saturday of the season before coverage returns to Sky for Chelsea’s trip to Everton in the evening.

The first ‘Super Sunday’ of the season sees Sky showing Brighton’s visit to Manchester United and champions Manchester City opening up their defence of their title with a game at West Ham United.

However, all remaining fixtures throughout August and September could be impacted by the decision that will be announced on Tuesday.

That means Magpies supporters will have to hold off finalising their plans for seven games that follow the opening day home game against Nottingham Forest.

That kicks off a hectic month with six games in 28 days as the Premier League prepares to take a break for the World Cup in Qatar starting in November.

The home game against Everton on 19th October will be broadcast live on Amazon Prime - but other live match picks are set to be announced at the end of July, giving Magpies supporters time to plan their travels.

Fixtures possibly impacted: 1/10 Fulham (A), 8/10 Brentford (H), 15/10 Manchester United (A), 19/10 Everton live on Amazon Prime (H), 22/10 Spurs (A), 29/10 Aston Villa (H)

Period of matches: November

Provisional announcement date: Tuesday 13th September

Thoughts will be turning towards England’s bid to win the World Cup by the time November gets underway.

A first ever winter World Cup Finals means the Premier League season will take a six-week break from the middle of the month until Boxing Day.

Live pick announcements will be made in mid-September with just two United games scheduled to take place before the break.

Fixtures possibly impacted: 5/11 Southampton (A), 12/11 Chelsea (H)

Period of matches: December - January

Provisional announcement date: Tuesday 11th October

The workload over the traditionally hectic festive period has been lightened by the World Cup and the Premier League’s decision to remove the fixture between Boxing Day and the New Year’s fixtures.

However, Newcastle will return to action on Boxing Day with an Amazon Prime broadcast of their visit to Leicester City before an unusually timed home game on the final day of 2022.

The start of the FA Cup also limits Eddie Howe’s side to just three league fixtures during the first month of the new year and all five of those games could be included in the live pick announcement that will be made in October.

Fixtures possibly impacted: 26/12 Leicester City - live on Amazon Prime (A), 31/12 Leeds United (H), 2/1 Arsenal (A), 14/1 Fulham (H), 21/1 Crystal Palace (A)

Period of matches: February

Provisional announcement date: Tuesday 6th December

Much of the talk when February gets underway will be of where United stand in the table and what impact any January signings could have on their prospects for the remainder of the season.

There are four league fixtures during the month and three of them will be at St James Park.

Announcements over live television picks will be made in early December.

Fixtures possibly impacted: 4/2 West Ham United (H), 11/2 Bournemouth (A), 18/2 Liverpool (H), 25/2 Brighton (H)

Period of matches: March

Provisional announcement date: Wednesday 25th January

The business end of the season rapidly approaches as Spring arrives.

This was where Newcastle really found their stride last season and if they repeat that trick during the coming campaign, all fixtures during March could be prime for broadcast.

There are just three games scheduled - but there could be a case for all of them to take place in front of the cameras.

Fixtures possibly impacted: 4/3 Manchester City (A), 11/2 Wolves (H), 18/3 Nottingham Forest (A)

Period of matches: April

Provisional announcement date: Tuesday 21st February

The penultimate month of a long season is also one of the Magpies most hectic periods with six games inside 29 days.

Again, with the season rapidly approaching its climax, fixtures will become vulnerable to movement depending on where Eddie Howe’s men and their opposition lie in the table.

Fixtures in May

This is where broadcasters give themselves more leeway with live fixture announcements and the drama at both ends of the table heightens.

That means picks for the weekend of 6th May will be made on Thursday 23rd March, selections for the weekend of 13th May are announced on Thursday 30th March and the live games for the 20th May will be revealed on Thursday 7th April.

The final fixtures of the season takes place on Sunday 28th May and broadcasters will revealed their live televised fixtures following the penultimate weekend of the campaign.

However, the date and time of those season-ending games will not be amended as all fixtures are due to get underway at 4pm.

Fixtures possibly impacted: 6/5 Arsenal (H), 13/5 Leeds United (A), 20/5 Leicester City (H), 28/5 Chelsea (A)

The Premier League have warned all live fixture announcements are ‘subject to change’.
