Yesterday Callum Wilson broke a Newcastle United record which had been in place for over twenty years as he successfully put two goals past the Southampton goalkeeper.

The number nine has had an outstanding April scoring an amazing eight goals in the calendar month. The previous record was seven goals scored by Alan Shearer for his September 1999 run.

When asked if he was devastated about his record being snatched away from him on Match of the Day the Newcastle legend replied: “Not at all!”

Wilson’s achievement prompted celebration amongst fans and players alike, but significantly also saw United co-owner Mehrdad Ghodoussi leave a bizarre message under Wilson’s Instagram post.

Bruno G said: ‘Player of the month by miles.’ Botman said ‘Potm,’ with a heart and flame emoji. However, Ghodoussi simply said ‘Weetabix’ followed by a whole flock of emojis.

Is Weetabix the secret to scoring a record-breaking amount of goals?

Whether this is the co-owner enlightening fans on why Wilson has been so good this month, or it’s simply an inside joke is unknown.

But it might see many footballers changing up their breakfast choice... just in case.
