Three-word Crystal Palace transfer tease gives Newcastle United new Marc Guehi hope

And time will tell if that brings good news to Newcastle United in their continued pursuit of Palace centre-back Marc Guehi. The Euro 2024 star has been identified as Eddie Howe’s main transfer target but a breakthrough is yet to be found.
Indeed, the Magpies have submitted four bids for Guehi, the latest being a reported £65million including add-ons. But the 24-year-old captained Palace in their Premier League opening day defeat to Brentford on Sunday, suggesting there is still plenty of work left to do.

Glasner spoke the media frequently in the build-up and in the aftermath of Palace’s 2-1 loss.
It was before the game when the 49-year-old talked to Austrian newspaper Kronen Zeitung. The source published a full transcript of the phone conversation, including what was said before the questions even started - in a somewhat unconventional approach.
‘Krone’ thanked Glasner for “calling back” to which he replied: “Sorry that it was a little later than agreed, but I just had a long phone call with the sports director. There’s a lot going on – wow!”
Immediately asked if that was because of the Brentford game, Glasner said: “No, squad policy and players are even bigger issues for us at the moment.”

Hide AdGlasner was then questioned directly about the prospect of Eberechi Eze leaving and Juventus midfielder Filip Kostic joining.
“There are so many rumours,” he said. “We don’t want to comment on that. The squad is in very good shape. But the transfer window is still open for two weeks – and anything is possible here.”
Newcastle have not yet given up hope of bringing Guehi to St James’ Park, though Howe did state over the weekend that the club will walk away from deals that demand “silly money”.
Palace chairman Steve Parish has called Guehi a superstar and in turn wants superstar money for his signature.
