Manchester City and Arsenal are reportedly considering a summer move for Newcastle United star Bruno Guimaraes.

The Brazilian continues to be the subject of intense transfer speculation having starred for the Magpies since his £40million switch from Lyon in January 2022. Guimaraes was rewarded with a new five-year contract in October last year but his £100m release has sparked doubt over his future.

Paris Saint-Germain have been heavily linked with the 26-year-old with his agent Alexis Malavolta making regular trips to Paris. And according to the Daily Telegraph, Guimaraes is aware of Man City and Arsenal’s admiration.

United boss Eddie Howe has outlined his desire to keep hold of Guimaraes for as long as possible, although can’t offer any guarantees.

“Let me tell you players like Bruno, they are not around every corner," said Howe earlier this month. They are very rare. Bruno should be appreciated for everything he brings. My intention would be to keep Bruno at the club for as long as we possibly can.

“I can never make guarantees though. That would be absolutely foolish of me. We have been in football long enough to know you don’t know what is going to happen tomorrow. He is an integral part of the team and playing very well."

Meanwhile, Guimaraes is settled in the North East having recently purchased a new property. But he too, however, is unsure what the future holds.

He said after scoring the winner at Fulham on April 6: “I hope to stay much longer. I don't know what the future brings let's see, but I hope to play much more for Newcastle United.” While it is clear Newcastle want to keep hold of their top players, the club’s CEO Darren Eales admitted in January that every player ‘has a price’ as the club strives to adhere to the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules.

Club record signing Alexander Isak is also attracting interest from elsewhere after his brace against Tottenham Hotspur last time out saw him reach 21 goals for the season.

But unlike Guimaraes, Isak does not have a release clause so United are in a much stronger position when it comes to the Swede.
