Bruno Guimaraes discussed his Newcastle United future after scoring twice against Nottingham Forest

Bruno Guimaraes has insisted he is “happy” at Newcastle United while outlining the need for European football next season.

The Brazilian was at his mercurial best as the Magpies earned a thrilling 3-2 win at Nottingham Forest. Given licence to play further forward, Guimaraes scored twice to put the Tricky Trees to the sword, avenging the Boxing Day defeat at St James’ Park.

His first came from a well-worked set piece, with the winner coming shortly after the hour mark from distance. Post-match celebrations saw Newcastle fans serenade their Brazilian maestro following his match-winning performance.

Speculation has been rife regarding Guimaraes’ future since he penned a contract extension in October. It is understood that a £100million release clause was inserted in the deal, dangling a carrot for potential suitors.

Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain are two clubs rumoured to be interested in the Toon talisman. However, Guimaraes shut down any suggestions of an exit after masterminding a win over Forest.

The 26-year-old also noted how Newcastle’s aim remains qualifying for Europe - hinting at what must be done to keep the midfielder. Guimaraes told Sky Sports: "Sometimes the people speak a lot about me. I just speak a lot about football. I'm very happy here and I like how the fans think of me here. Let the people speak."

"We have to get Europe again. Try for Champions League, I know it's difficult but definitely for Europa League. We have been better away from home. We have a big game at home next week and, hopefully, we can get the three points. I enjoy my time here. The fans have been unbelievable for me and my family. I hope this can keep going for a long time."
