Newcastle United’s Jeff Hendrick has joined Reading on loan.

Eddie Howe’s side have decided to loan the Republic of Ireland international back to the Championship.

The club has taken to Twitter to wish the midfielder the best of luck with his new move (see below):

He spent the last campaign with QPR but only ended up making 11 appearances in all competitions before heading back to his parent club.

Hendrick will be hoping for much more game time with the Royals now and has linked up with Paul Ince’s side on a season-long loan deal.

Newcastle United spell

Newcastle United signed him back in 2020 from Burnley under former boss Steve Bruce but he has struggled to make an impact with the North East outfit.

He has played 27 games for them to date, chipping in with three goals, but has found his pathway into their starting XI blocked due to the abundance of talent they have ahead of him in his position.

Prior to his move to the Toon Army, he started his career at Derby County and went on to play 214 times for the Rams before a four year spell in the Premier League at Turf Moor.

Other Toon departure

Hendrick isn’t the only player heading out the exit door at St. James’ Park as Howe looks to clear the decks.

Defender Ciaran Clark is leaving the club as well and is set to join Sheffield United in the second tier, The Star understands.

The experienced centre-back is embarking on a new chapter in his career with the Blades.
