St James’ Park missed out on over £9m in pint and pie sales while Newcastle United matches were played behind closed doors

The 2021/22 season has seen supporters return to stadiums to watch live football.

It's clear football has missed fans inside the ground and fans have missed their live fix.

But just how much did stadiums lose out in pint and pie sales while matches were being played behind closed doors?

According to data put together by GablingDeals.com, the estimated loss of revenue through pint and pie sales is into the seven figures.

Newcastle United's St James' Park home is estimated to have lost out on the sale of 1,527,568 pints and 1,132,068 pies during that time.

That's the seventh highest loss in sales from all 20 clubs in the Premier League.

Old Trafford, home to Manchester United, tops the pile with an estimated 2,397,299 pint sales and 1,323,319 pie sales lost.

It is estimated that those numbers equate to a financial loss of £10,787,845 in pint sales and £5,028,612 in pie sales during that time.

Arsenal's Emirates Stadium were second in the list followed by West Ham's London Stadium, Spurs' Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Liverpool's Anfield and Manchester City's Etihans Stadium for estimated losses in pint and pie sales while games were being played behind closed doors.

St James' Park's financial loss is estimated to be £5,499,244 in pint sales and £3,622,617 in pie sales during that time.

On the other end of the scale, Brentford Community Stadium takes last place with the club missing out on an estimated 486,736 pint sales, equating to £1,752,249.

Despite having the lowest estimated losses in pint sales, Brentford Community Stadium is estimated to have lost the most in pie sales - 1,421,670 estimated pies.

With pies going at an average of £3.60 at their stadium this equates to £5,118,012 lost due to the 30 home games missed by fans, the most of all premier league teams.
