With the peak of summer now in the past reality TV returns to our screens with plenty on offer for fans of the small screen, including a local name when Ru Paul’s Drag Race UK returns to TVs very soon.

Of the ten queens who will make up season five of the show, three are from the North East including Newcastle’s very own Michael Marouli.

39 year old Marouli has been performing in drag for 15 years and has spent time living in Gran Canaria before returning home for the show which will be shown on BBC Three.

After doing “every drag gig imaginable,” she is back to take the UK by storm. Claiming to be an all-round entertainer who can host, perform, sing and do comedy, Michael is ready to show off what she can do.

She is one of ten participants for the upcoming series and will make up a trio of North East queens, joining 34 year old Ginger Johnson from County Durham and Tomara Thomas, 25, from Hartlepool.

Johnson has been in the drag game for just as long as her Newcastle counterpart while Hartlepool’s Tomara Thomas has moved to London, becoming a regular name at drag brunches across the capital.

Ru Paul’s Drag Race UK returns for season five very soon with no date yet announced by the BBC.

The last queen to represent Tyneside was Spanish-born Choriza May, who now calls the North East home, in season three.
