This year's break will be from Monday, October 26 until Friday, October 3.

Now that international travel is expected to be easier than in the summer, some may be hoping to sneak in a trip abroad.

That said, half term can be a notoriously pricey time of year to holiday.

Weather: Weather in Palma this October should stay between 16 degrees and 24 degrees.

Usual price: Travelling to the Gothic-influenced Spanish city would cost just £80 the week after half term.

Alicante - £260

Flight time: 2 hr 50 mins

Airline: Ryanair

Weather: It stays pretty warm in Alicante come October with temperatures between 15 degrees and 25 degrees.

Usual price: If you're fancying a trip to Alicante or its surrounding areas, including the infamous Benidorm, you'd pay just £124 after half term.

Minorca - £220

Flight time: 3 hr

Airline: Jet2

Weather: You can expect temperatures between 16 and 23 degrees in Minorca come October.

Usual price: A trip to the island's turquoise bays will cost you £158 after the half term, which makes the destination one of those less affected by the holiday price rise.

Ibiza - £233

Weather: In Ibiza this October there will be lows of 15 degrees and highs of 23.

Usual price: You'll save over £100 if you fly to the European party capital the week after half term, with a trip costing £108.

Faro - £374

Flight time: 3 hr 20 min

Airline: Jet2

Weather: Temperatures in Faro this October will be between 15 and 23 degrees.

Usual price: A trip to the capital of the Algarve is only £66 the following week.

City breaks

With airlines knowing the population are desperate for a late summer holiday and raising the prices to the popular European beach resorts, it may be easier to stay closer to home for a shorter city break.

If you do fancy getting away, but don’t mind not feeling the sand between your toes, here are some options for you.**

Dublin - £60

Flight time: 1 hr 5 mins

Airline: Ryanair

The cheapest return flight going from Newcastle this October half term is to Dublin.

The Irish capital is sure to give you a cheery welcome and is a must-see at some point in your life.

The Guinness Storehouse is, of course, one of the most popular destinations to visit.

Belfast - £79

Just 200 miles separate Newcastle and Belfast, with the two cities sharing more or less the same latitude.

The Northern Irish capital is home to the Titanic quarter and its renowned museum dedicated to the ship.

If you fancy a road trip, the Northern Irish coastline features Giant’s Causeway and plenty Game of Thrones backgrounds.

Frankfurt - £129

Frankfurt is one of Germany’s most booming cities and is a global hub for commerce, culture, education, tourism and transportation.

The city is also known for its green spaces and botanical gardens.

You’ll have just missed Frankfurt’s Oktoberfest by October half term though, and you might be a bit early for the famous Christmas markets.

Amsterdam - £142

Swap strolls along the Quayside for Amsterdam’s quaint little canals.

The city has a unique culture and is known for its artistic heritage.

If you are looking to travel without the kids, Amsterdam also has a buzzing nightlife that is one of a kind.
