A sensational Black Eyed Peas show went a long way in making up for what was a chaotic start to LooseFest in Newcastle - with popular DJ Joel Corry forced to pull out.

The American supergroup, fronted by will.i.am, impressed with their headline show on the Saturday night of the two-day event.

Almost 90 minutes of high-energy hits whipped the Newcastle crowd into a frenzy in what was a performance fit for the very biggest of stages.

The event, which takes place on the city's Town Moor, got off to a shaky start as ticket-holders queued for hours outside before being let into the site.

Attendees took to social media from the long line to brand the entry system a "joke" and beg organisers to "let us in".

One festival-goer wrote: "@loosefest shocking planning, been here since 11:45 am ready for @JoelCorry, it's 1:04 pm and still 3 massive queues to get in."

Writing on an Instagram story, LooseFest apologised for the delay and put it down to “techincal errors that were totally out of our control”.

As a consequence of delays causing havoc to set times, former Geordie Shore star and hit-maker Joel Corry was forced to withdraw from performing at the festival.

The producer was waiting backstage, but eventually took to Twitter and wrote that "due to circumstances out of my control" doors weren't open in time for him to play his set.

He said: "Hey guys I’m so gutted I was unable to play @LooseFest Newcastle today. I was on site & ready to start my set at 1PM. Unfortunately, due to circumstances outside of my control the venue was unable to open in time for my set. I look forward to being back in the Toon soon - Joel."

Once ticket-holders had entered the festival, music across multiple stages got underway in the build-up to the hotly-anticipated Black Eyed Peas headline set.

The LooseFest date is the only show that the group are playing in the UK on their worldwide tour, and it certainly did not disappoint.

Bounding on stage to 'Let's Get It Started', the Black Eyed Peas ‘pumped it’ for nearly 90 minutes as they cracked through all the greatest hits, as well as some new material.

will.i.am and his colleagues looked suitably impressed as the North Eastern crowd bellowed back mammoth hits 'Boom Boom Pow', 'Meet Me Halfway' and 'The Time (Dirty Bit)'.

The Voice judge was even afforded an indulgent 10 minutes to mash together solo singles including This is Love', '#thatPOWER' and 'Scream & Shout' - humongous Justin Bieber and Britney Spears faces adorn the screen for the latter two.

Ever the charmer, will.i.am takes moments to big-up the Geordie crowd and praise the city's party atmosphere - admitting the band let loose on the city's nightlife the previous evening.

The rapper does call the location Manchester on one occasion, but is quickly forgiven by a crowd far too busy partying to hold a grudge.

The evening finishes on the euphoric 'I Gotta Feeling' - to which the LooseFest attendees rattle the lyrics with aplomb.
