The 10 things I can’t wait to do in Newcastle this Christmas
From the obvious to the obscure, this is what’s in my diary for Christmas 2022 in Newcastle.
Christmas has well and truly arrived in Newcastle with the Fenwick Christmas Window open and street lights on. There's so much to do in the city and across the North East at this time of the year.
Everyone has their annual traditions but it's important to live life on the edge and try something new every year. As a Christmas fan, I tend to do much of the same stuff in Newcastle each festive season but am hoping to branch out in 2022.
From the iconic city centre displays to sporting activities you may not think about and a journey into Northumberland, here are the 10 activities that I can't wait to do in Newcastle this Christmas season.
These are, of course, just what's on my radar. I've not even mentioned the upcoming visit from the Coca-Cola Christmas Truck, which I loved in 2021, and the Polar Express Experience, which looks to have been the hottest ticket in town.

1. Visit the Fenwick Christmas Window
This is the first thing I do to start feeling festive in Newcastle each year. I’m not completely sold by Clarice Bean this year, but the display is worth a visit all the same.

2. Visit the Christmas Market
I have to confess, I don’t think I’ve ever actually bought something from a Christmas Market, but I’m sure I’m not the only one who likes to just browse and soak up the festivities. Who knows, maybe this year I’ll have my head turned.

3. Visit Winter Wonderland
This year’s Winter Wonderland at Newcastle Racecourse looks like a bumper edition with rides, stalls and even a zip wire. I’m dying to get down and check it out. Photo: Getty Images

4. Go to the pantomime
You’re never too old for the pantomime. I’m going to see Cinderella at the Theatre Royal next week and can’t wait to embrace the childish chaos.
