Allan Saint-Maximin has sent another public message of support to Joe Willock after the 24-year-old found the back of the net in Newcastle United’s 3-0 win over Manchester United in the Carabao Cup fourth round.

The ex-Magpie joined Al-Ahli from Tyneside in the summer but has still continued to be vocal in his support for his former team.

Last month, while Willock was still sidelined due to injury he and Maxi had a heartfelt interaction on an Instagram live with the Frenchman lovingly saying: “I miss you so much brother. I hope you’re back soon and show them- they’ll see.”

Before United’s Champions League game against Borussia Dortmund last week, Willock hadn’t featured for Newcastle since May when he picked up a hamstring injury in the penultimate home game of the season against Brighton.

He was expected to return in pre-season, however experienced a significant setback resulting in the footballer being sidelined for five months.

And, after yesterday’s performance, it looks like the midfielder is back to his best self.

“I thought Joe was outstanding today,” said Eddie Howe after the match. “He’s a goalscoring midfielder, he’s got those athletic qualities that we need. You could see how many times he ran forward today.

“He’s a real threat, took his goal brilliant which was a big moment in the match. Delighted with Joe.”
