Newcastle United official injury update confirms fresh 'hamstring' problem for breakout Matthias Jaissle star
Matthias Jaissle confirmed a fresh injury blow following Newcastle United’s 1-0 win at Millwall in the Carabao Cup third round.
Newcastle United suffered a fresh injury concern during Tuesday’s 1-0 Carabao Cup third round win at Millwall.
Summer signing Amar Dedic was forced off at half-time with a hamstring issue. The 24-year-old has enjoyed a strong start to his Newcastle career following his £29.5million arrival from Benfica, with three assists to his name.
Dedic’s injury ultimately handed Tino Livramento an opportunity to get more minutes under his belt having just returned from a serious calf injury that saw him miss all of pre-season.

NUFC injury concern
Livramento came off the bench for stoppage time in Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Bournemouth, after which Jaissle claimed the player was not ready to start matches just yet. Now the right-back may have to start in Newcastle’s next Premier League clash at Leeds United on Monday should Dedic’s issue be enough to rule him out of the trip to Elland Road.
Livramento came off the bench at The Den to play the full second half as Joe Willock grabbed a late winner to send the Magpies through to the last 16 of the competition.
Explaining the half-time change, Jaissle told The Gazette: “Amar fell a little bit on his hamstring, so we didn't want to take any risk, but it was also planned that Tino gets a bit more minutes than last time [against Bournemouth].”
Lewis Hall and Dedic are Newcastle’s top two goal creators from full-back this season, with Jaissle highlighting their importance to his side.
“Really important, as you saw also in the statistics, they don't lie,” he said. “So we involve them heavily in possession, usually to be also dominant in the final third, and we have that quality on both sides, so I'm really pleased to see these performances.”
William Osula, Dan Burn, Joelinton and Ewen Jaouen all missed the trip to Millwall due to injury and will likely miss the trip to Elland Road next Monday.
Matthias Jaissle reacts to cup win
“We're delighted, we're happy, we did our job, that's the most important thing in a cup match,” Jaissle explained. “I think it's never easy playing here against Millwall, so we were aware of it, we faced it and we did it.
