Newcastle United are proving to have one of the continent’s best squads and the transfer links are getting more and more audacious.

After a busy summer of transfer action, Newcastle United are proving to have an enviable squad following a run of seriously-impressive results - but the side’s continuing rise in the footballing world is seeing bigger and bigger stars touted with moves to Tyneside. There were some questions about the club’s summer transfer business after a stuttering start to the season but a strong series of wins, including the 8-0 hammering of Sheffield United, a win over treble winners Manchester City and a scintillating 4-1 Paris Saint-Germain coup suggest a side ready to compete on all fronts.

Eyebrows were raised when Eddie Howe forked out £45 million for Anthony Gordon in January but the winger is now impressing on the biggest stage. Big-money signings Kieran Trippier, Bruno Guimaraes and Alexander Isak continue to impress while Howe gets the best of Dan Burn and homegrown talent Sean Longstaff and Elliot Anderson too.

However, with owners as rich as the Saudi Public Investment Fund and now beating European giants in PSG, the transfers are set to get even more blockbuster and rumours all the more audacious too. After the win over PSG on Wednesday night, NewcastleWorld looks at who the bookies believe could be making their way to the North East in the near future.

Bournemouth centre-back Lloyd Kelly is top of the odds at 3/1 and that’s certainly believable with the 24-year-old having been signed by Howe when at the south coast club. Rising Blackburn Rovers star Adam Wharton is also at 3/1 odds as the 19-year-old continues to impress in the Championship.

It gets a little crazier from there. None other than Manchester United and Real Madrid legend Cristiano Ronaldo is ranked at 4/1 odds to join the Newcastle United mission. Sporting midfielder Pedro Goncalves is at 5/1 with out-of-favour Arsenal star Emile Smith-Rowe at 11/2.
