'Deal on' - Liverpool given green light to sign Anthony Gordon alternative in boost to Newcastle United
The Reds held talks with Newcastle United over signing Anthony Gordon in June with Eddie Howe’s side desperately needing to raise funds in order to comply with Premier League Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

Liverpool have continued to be linked with Gordon but as the summer transfer draws to a close - the deadline is on Friday - their interest in Italy international Chiesa is being pushed instead.
And that will be music to Newcastle’s ears as they look to ensure the winger is fully focused on the campaign ahead. Eddie Howe has previously played down suggestions that Gordon has been impacted by the transfer speculation.

“We put him in as he’s a difference maker, it takes the younger players less time to get up to speed but I think this week he has looked back to his best.”
Plenty of Newcastle fans on social media have named Chiesa as somebody they would like to see on Tyneside but the club have never seriously weighed up a move.

Howe replied “probably not, no” when asked if Newcastle would sign a centre-back and right forward this week. As it stands, a club-record deal for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi is the most likely one to materialise.
