Borussia Dortmund boss Edin Terzic provided his verdict on his side’s 1-0 win against Newcastle United in the Champions League.

Borussia Dortmund boss Edin Terzic believes his side “deserved” their 1-0 victory over Newcastle United in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

The Bundesliga outfit emerged as close winners courtesy of Felix Nmecha’s 45th-minute strike in front of the Gallowgate End. Newcastle tried to respond but were ultimately left disappointed as both Callum Wilson and Anthony Gordon were denied by the woodwork in the closing stages.

It isn’t long until the two teams lock horns again at the Signal Iduna Park on Tuesday, November 7 and whoever wins could decide who finishes inside the two top and therefore reach the knockout stage.

“it’s just half-time,” said Terzic “We’re going to face each other in a couple of weeks.

“We showed a fantastic first half and we fought a lot in the second half. If you combine both, I think we deserved to win with our first half and we protected the win in the second.

“At the end, we needed to be passionate, have some luck and we needed a good goalie. If we have all of that then we’ll manage to win games. It’s something we are really happy with tonight.”

On Newcastle, the former West United assistant manager added: “We were playing against a team that was pressing high with a very intense approach but I think we closed down space well and drew the opposition away and made the right decisions.

“We created two or three chances we didn’t take in the first half. Second-half, we could have perhaps made it easier for ourselves.

“Newcastle were pressing high and taking risks with their substitutions to give them chances on the counter-attack, which perhaps we didn’t make the best use of.”
