The 1975 landed a dig at treble winners Manchester City as they headlined Parklife festival on Sunday night with Newcastle United loving frontman Matty Healy up to his usual tricks.

An impressive 70,000 music fans attended the festival in Heaton Park across two days this weekend with local stars Aitch and The 1975 headlining the Saturday and Sunday nights respectively.

BRIT Award-winning The 1975 delivered a hit-filled 90-minute set as they continue their long run of festivals this summer and even had time to fit in a rapid criticism on Manchester City that Manchester United fans will love.

Healy has made it a trademark to open autotune-heavy ‘TOOTIMETOOTIMETOOTIME’ with a funny, impromptu line and at Parklife that was, ‘don’t like City’.

It was so quick some may have missed it, but the fans that caught the clip on video have fast made the video well-publicised online.

The 1975 were of course performing just 24 hours after Pep Guardiola’s side became only the second English club to win a treble in history following a 1-0 victory over Inter Milan in the Champions League final - adding to their Premier League and FA Cup titles.

Manchester United were the only other side in the country to achieve a treble back in 1999.

During the night, Healy also used one pause in the show to say: “So can we, civil of us, all of us, the people of Manchester give the people who support Man City a round of applause for what’s just happened?”

When met by a resounding wall of boos from the crowd, he added: “I love it. Yeah you know what. F**k ‘em.”

Healy was raised in Manchester and calls the North West home, but he was first raised in the North East to parents who are Geordies through and through.

The singer’s mother is actress and Loose Women star Denise Welch and his father is actor Tim Healy, who came out on stage to perform alongside the star at The 1975’s Utilita Arena show in Newcastle earlier this year.

During that night, Healy made his love for Newcastle United clear as he used his ‘TOOTIMETOOTIMETOOTIME’ bit to announce, ‘don’t like Mackems’.

Speaking to Football Burp back in 2013, the singer recalled how he “virtually grew up” at St. James’ Park and the training ground.

He said: “Yeah, massively. I virtually grew up in the crèche at St James’s Park – because my dad was in Auf Wiedersehen, Pet in the ’80s, so he was mates with Micky Quinn and all that lot.

“He used to go on a night out, pick me up on the Saturday and we’d go to the training ground because that’s where all his mates would be.”

In the same interview, The 1975 lead singer was also tasked with picking his all-time Newcastle United five-a-side team.

Healy said: “Peter Beardsley, Paul Gascoigne, Alan Shearer, Micky Quinn and David Ginola. Wait, those are just my favourite players – I need a goalkeeper and defence…Just put Beardsley in nets, he’s pretty good in there!”
