What Allan Saint-Maximin & Demba Ba told Ewen Jaouen after £18m Newcastle United transfer

Newcastle United new signing Ewen Jaouen has received messages from Demba Ba and Allan Saint-Maximin.

Former Newcastle United duo Demba Ba and Allan Saint-Maximin have sent messages to Ewen Jaouen following his move to St James’ Park.

The 20-year-old goalkeeper became the Magpies’ first summer signing earlier this week after joining from Stade de Reims for £18million.

Jaouen kept the most clean sheets in Ligue 2 last season, and conceded just 35 goals in 34 matches. Before that, the Frenchman spent the year on loan at Dunkerque, where Ba is sporting director.

And the 41-year-old, who scored 29 goals in 58 appearances for the Magpies, was among the first to congratulate Jaouen on his move to Tyneside.

“Ewen, my boy! You don’t know how proud I am from the moment I have heard you have signed for Newcastle United,” Ba said. “Coming out from the tunnel onto this big stadium with the greatest atmosphere you can find in England.

“I just want to wish you well and a great career with the Geordies. And I know that you’re going to kill it. Howay the lads!”

Meanwhile, Jaouen and Saint-Maximin have never crossed paths but the latter was keen to offer his support.

Saint-Maximin told Jaouen that Newcastle is “the best club in the world” and one that changed his life after four years on Tyneside

Saint-Maximin said: “Well, my friend. You’re joining my club. My favourite club. The best club in the world, in my opinion. It’s a very family-oriented club, a club that has transformed my career and changed my life.

“I really wish you all the best. Take care, and if you need anything, don’t hesitate, my friend.”

In response to the message from Ba and Saint-Maximin, Jaouen said: “Nice messages. It’s nice from Allan and from Demba. Nice English by Demba, by the way.

“But yes, I didn’t expect that, it was really good messages from the heart.

“Demba is still the sporting director at Dunkerque when I was there on loan. He was really close to the players and wanted the players to progress and to be good human beings.

“Saint-Maximin, he was really loved by the fans here. He said that the club changed his life, so I hope the club can do the same to me.”
