Controversial TV star Piers Morgan was one of many online who sent praise the way of Newcastle United and England star Kieran Trippier on Tuesday as a classy selfless act from the Qatar World Cup 2022 emerged.

The Magpies full-back started the opening two matches of the campaign for Gareth Southgate's side, before having to resort to a squad role for the three games that followed.

However, Trippier still managed to turn heads when not on the pitch as a journalist from beIN SPORTS recounted a heartwarming story about the defender and fellow Three Lions teammate Raheem Sterling.

Carrie Brown said: "I've got a sweet personal moment that will really stick with me. People ask me about the special relationship this team have and how they are a real family. My parents have dementia and there's only one hour in the day that I can ever get them on a Zoom call. For the first seven days of rushing around, I hadn't managed it and I made a mental note that after the Iran game, that might be quite a good time after the flash zone was done. I saw one of the coaching staff, John McDermott, doing the same thing with his family.

"My mother at the moment has dementia and doesn't believe that I'm in Qatar and that I'm making it up and that I should go and visit her. The nurses said, “Carrie you're going to have to try and convince her, can you show her anything written with Qatar?” I showed her the pitch, the England dugout and she still wasn't convinced. I took her into the flash area and looked over my shoulder and some of the players were down in the tunnel. It was really dark and Raheem Sterling came to look in my screen and waved. When he realised it was my mum and dad in the care home he got Kieran Trippier over and they waved and they engaged.

"My dad doesn't have words and my mum didn't know what to think but it meant so much to all the nurses and the doctors who have got everyone through Covid. They'll never forget the day that Raheem and Kieran spent some time with their care home. That will stay with me longer than any goal in this tournament."
