Leicester will be desperate not to lose the midfielder, given his talent and his importance to Brendan Rodgers’ plans.

But Newcastle have cash to spend, and they may well continue their efforts to land Maddison for the remaining month of the summer transfer window.

Here we round up all the latest.

New bid

Newcastle failed with their first bid for Maddison, believed to be worth between £35million and £40million.

Leicester quickly rejected the offer, with reports they want £60million to sell their England star.

According to the Daily Telegraph, the Magpies have now returned with a new offer of £45million, which is made up of staggered payments.

That offer is still significantly short of Leicester’s valuation, but Newcastle are hoping to convince the Foxes of a deal.

Though, Leicester would be selling to a potential top seven rival - be it this season or beyond - and very close to the season.

Newcastle appear to be facing an uphill battle.

Brendan Rodgers comments

Leicester boss Rodgers has already hit back at Newcastle over what he feels is a lowball offer for Maddison.

“He’s still very much a player here. Naturally the players are sought after because they are talents,” said the Foxes boss.

“You see his performance, you see how happy he is and he’s not a player we want to sell. It’s not for me to put valuations on the players, it’s not my side, but that might just cover three-quarters of his left leg, that price. He’s a top player.”

Tottenham interest

Transfer insider Dean Jones believes Maddison is not particularly interested in ato Leicester, but Spurs could now be tempted to make a bid.

“Spurs will be watching this situation and it might spark them into a bid. I don’t think Maddison is convinced about Newcastle from what I’ve heard,” Jones told GIVEMESPORT.

Tottenham have previously been linked with Maddison, and they have already been busy in the sumer window.
