Following on from the electric win last night, all eyes are on women’s football and here’s how you can support Newcastle United W.F.C.

Team England played an incredible match against Germany, winning 2-1 in extra time, and bringing home the European championship on Sunday 31 July.

After a long 56 year wait, this was the first time England won a major tournament since 1966.

The match not only saw Team England make history with their win, but it also broke a record for attendance with 87,192 people showing up to support the women.

This was a record high for a European Championship game for both men and women. Setting a new benchmark for football.

The win has sent waves through the nation, encouraging people to get behind women’s football and get proper funding behind the sport.

Lucy Bronze

Lucy Bronze was born in Northumberland and has been a key component in this year’s win.

Bronze recently signed a two-year deal with Barcelona, following an incredible career and stint at Manchester City for the 30-year old.

Bronze has played for Sunderland, Everton, Liverpool, Lyon, as well as Manchester City. As well as playing on the 2017 and 2022 Euro squad, Bronze was selected for the 2015 and 2019 Women’s World Cup team.

Beth Mead

Beth Mead took home the Golden Boot award last night, and has proved to be one of the squad’s strongest players. The forward scored a hat trick against Norway, as well as scoring against Austria, Northern Ireland and Sweden.

Mead was born in Hinderwell near Whitby.

Jill Scott

Jill Scott was born in Sunderland, and spent two years of her senior career at her home club.

In 2011 a FIFA report described the midfielder as one of England’s outstanding players. The report read: "[an] energetic, ball-winning midfielder who organises the team well, works hard at both ends of the pitch and can change her team’s angle of attack."

Since leaving Sunderland F.C, Scott has went on to play for Everton, Manchester City and most recently was on loan with Aston Villa.

England Women’s Team will next face off against Austria Women’s team on Saturday 3 September. The game is a qualifier match for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023.

The match is scheduled to kick off at 4:30pm. The game will be shown live on ITV TBC and ITV Hub.
