Newcastle United youngster set for fifth different manager since joining on loan as official statement issued

Newcastle United loan watch: Young winger Antonio Cordero is set to be playing under yet another new manager.

Antonio Cordero’s loan spell at Spanish second-tier side Cádiz has been disrupted by the sacking of Albert Celades as head coach on Monday.

Cordero returned to Cádiz from Newcastle for a second loan spell after spending the second half of last season at the Andalusian club. But he is no stranger to managerial changes at the club as Gaizka Garitano, who signed him on loan from Newcastle, was replaced by Sergio González last season.

González lasted just seven games before being replaced by Imanol Idiakez, before Celades replaced him over the summer.

But just over two months into his new role, Celades has been relieved of his duties at Cádiz, with the club sitting third bottom of LaLiga Hypermotion table. It follows successive defeats to Sporting Gijón and Granada without scoring.

Cordero has been featuring regularly in the Cádiz side so far this season, contributing with three goals and an assist in 10 appearances. While he was a regular under Celades, he will now be looking to impress his successor - which will be the fifth manager he has worked under at Cádiz already.

An official club statement issued by Cádiz read: “The board of directors of Cádiz Club de Fútbol informed Albert Celades of his dismissal as first-team coach on Monday. Raúl Valbuena and Juan José del Ojo were also relieved of their duties.

“The organisation appreciates his work and wishes him the best of luck in his professional future.”

Cordero played an important role in Cádiz’s battle to avoid relegation last season by scoring three crucial goals at the back end of the 2025/26 campaign. Now the 19-year-old looks to be set for another relegation battle in the Spanish second tier.

NUFC loan watch

Elsewhere for Newcastle players out on loan, it was a game to forget for Nick Woltemade and Juventus after his goal in the Europa League on Thursday night. Woltemade dropped back to the bench for Sunday’s Serie A match against Lazio but couldn’t stop the side falling to a 3-0 defeat.

But it was an evening to remember for Sean Neave at Wolverhampton Wanderers on Friday as he marked his first professional league start with an assist in a 2-1 win at Burnley.

On the continent, Alex Murphy kept a clean sheet in a 2-0 win for Kaiserslautern, Ousmane Diabate started for Genclerbirligi in a 1-0 home defeat to Galatasaray and Odysseas Vlachodimos couldn’t stop Sevilla falling to a 4-1 defeat at Real Madrid. 19-year-old Leo Shahar is still yet to feature for Portuguese side Arouca and was not included in the matchday squad over the weekend.

In League One, Rory Finneran started for Notts County in a 2-0 defeat to Wycombe Wanderers but Harrison Ashby was not involved in Luton Town’s 2-1 defeat at MK Dons. Anthony Munda started Swindon Town’s 1-1 draw at home to Walsall in League Two.
