Newcastle United ‘consider’ launching £50m transfer bid for Arsenal target in January transfer window

Newcastle United have joined the likes of Arsenal and Nice in the race for a Ukrainian star.

Newcastle United are said to be the latest team to join the race for Shakhtar Donetsk winger Mykhaylo Mudryk, according to CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs.

The 21-year-old enjoyed a breakthrough campaign last time out and has now kicked off the new season in brilliant form, bagging four assists in four league matches and scoring against RB Leipzig and Celtic in the Champions League.

Mudryk’s form has unsurprisingly attracted interest from top clubs and reports claim that Newcastle now join Arsenal and Liverpool monitoring the Ukrainian.

“You’ve got Arsenal and even Bayer Leverkusen [who are interested],” Jacobs told GiveMeSport.

“But the challenge with Leverkusen is that they have been messed around before with Mudryk. They actually had a deal to sign him and it never came off. So are they going to return into the fold knowing that they’ve been messed around once before?

“But he’s hot property, and the better he does, the more clubs are going to be circling. But Newcastle certainly hold an interest and are keeping tabs on the situation.”

Mudryk looked sent to join Bayer Leverkusen in the summer, however the deal eventually fell through with Shakhtar reportedly offering the player to clubs in England with the hope of driving the price up.

It is thought that Shakhtar valued Mudryk at around £50 million and i News have now reported that the Magpies are prepared to meet his price tag in January.

With Mudryk’s contract not expiring until 2026, the winger’s next club could go down to a bidding war - with Newcastle’s owners definitely holding a financial advantage.
