Newcastle United fans are rushing to take home their own piece of Wor Flags memorabilia after Sunday's vital win against Manchester United.

Eddie Howe's side defeated the Red Devils 2-0 in what was not only a revenge result after losing the Carabao Cup final to Erik ten Hag and his men in February, but a huge coup in the race for Champions League football.

The atmosphere in St James' Park reached fever pitch at the weekend with Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville gushing after his visit to the cathedral on the hill.

The ex-Manchester United man said: "It’s the first time I’ve been up here for quite a while and that’s the best atmosphere I’ve seen in my days working for Sky and that’s 11 years."

That special St James' Park feeling on matchday is in no small part down to the work of supporters group Wor Flags who pull together the displays that cover the stands before kick-offs.

The volunteer group receives support from the football club but is largely funded by generous fans who make frequent donations to the movement - data released last month showed which neighbourhoods in Newcastle have the most contributors.

On Sunday afternoon, a new flag was unveiled by the group with the slogan 'We Are Newcastle'. The huge flag was unfurled in the Leazes Stand and was a sight to behold.

Over 8,000 people donated to Wor Flags to purchase the flag and each of their names was represented on the flag.

Normally, Wor Flag items are strictly to be left at the stadium by fans after the match but the group has made miniature replicas of the We Are Newcastle flag available to purchase online.

All profits from sales go to future displays and the group have already received a "huge take up" since launching the product.

The miniature flags are approximately 800 mm by 560 mm and cost £20 on the Wor Flags shop.
