Newcastle United are now stepping up their pre-season preparations as the new season draws closer.

The Magpies were defeated by Mainz earlier this week, but results are not the most important factor at this stage of the summer.

It has already been an exciting summer for Newcastle as far as incomings go, and we could yet see further signings.

Eddie Howe is determined to put his own stamp on his squad, and he has the backing to do it thanks to the club’s new wealthy owners.

As the Magpies continue to chase new deals, we have rounded up all the latest transfer news and rumours:

Diaby decision

It seems Newcastle will not be signing Moussa Diaby this summer.

The winger has been linked with a move to St James’ Park, but he will not be rocking up on Tyneside ahead of the new season.

Diaby has already made it clear he will be staying at Bayer Leverkusen, who were said to be demanding £60million in any case.

The winger told RP Online via The Northern Echo: “I’ve made my decision and will play for Bayern Leverkusen again next season.”

He added: “It’s true that I’ve made a lot of progress in this area. My goals haven’t changed for the forthcoming season.

“With Bayern, we want to have a top team again and I want to help the team as much as possible by continuing to score goals but by also providing assists. The aim is to get as far as possible in all competitions.”

Striker boost

Newcastle are said to be concentrating on landing a striker this summer, and they may have received a fresh boost.

That’s because the Magpies now have a clear run at Sassuolo frontman Gianluca Scamacca, with West Ham potentiall going for Armando Broja, according to insider Pete Graves.

Graves told the Transfer Talk Podcast: “There are players on the list. We know that they’ve been linked with Broja – I think there’s an interest there. I think Scamacca is another one in Italy.

“I wonder if West Ham sign one of those, whether Newcastle might go for the other one. That’d be fascinating to see.”
